The tub you have.

Peeling at the drain. Rust under the faucet. A colour nobody has picked since the seventies. It came with the house, and ripping it out means the tile goes with it.

The tub you could have.

Masked, stripped, repaired, primed and sprayed, in place. The same tub, the same tile around it, and none of the demolition.

Refinished, white, cured. Listing photo.
A bathtub masked off with blue tape, the basin rusted and worn through.
Masked, before the strip. Listing photo.

Rust where the water sits. Glaze worn through to the iron. Tape already on, because this one is getting done.

Replacing a tub means the surround comes out, the plumbing gets opened and the bathroom is out of service while it happens. Refinishing means a day of masking and a spray booth built around your tub.

A bathtub masked with brown paper and blue tape ahead of spraying.

How a tub gets done.

  1. MaskPaper and tape over everything that is not the tub.
  2. StripThe old surface comes off down to something the new one can hold.
  3. RepairChips, rust pits and worn spots filled and sanded flat.
  4. PrimeA bonding coat so the finish stays put.
  5. SprayThe finish goes on wet and level, no brush marks.
  6. CureIt hardens before the tape comes off and the water goes back on.

It is not only tubs. Sinks strip the same way. So does tile, grout lines and all.

We used Mathew and partner to do our bathroom tile and shower tile refinishing.
